Une Anatomie : 1933-2022

The fact that this phallus on legs also has a vagina seems to suggest that these women have the capacity to self-generate and in so doing 'give themselves back life', which is what Marie-Thérèse eventually did. She was, after all, the eternal little girl with the white dove that led the blind Minotaur to safety and, in reality, her athletic grace and innocent sexuality brought out the compassionate and passionate sides of his character and, therefore, his art (Fig.42). Picasso, in gratitude, may have celebrated her return to health in the form of ex-voto artworks.
