The wall-paintings in cubiculum M were considered to be the visual evidence that corroborated Vitruvius's disputed reference to tragic, comic and satyric scenes depicted in Roman domestic wall-painting. The end wall was thought to depict a satyric scene, the two lateral end panels - tragic scenery and the nearest three lateral panels - comic scenery.
